Chapters
The Society lives in universities and labs. A chapter needs one institution and three members, and the first ones are chartered this winter.
How to found a chapter
- Join the founding cohort
Apply between 28 October and 7 November. Decisions go out on 10 November.
- Find two more members
Three members at one university, lab or organisation is enough.
- Apply to charter it
Chapter applications open to admitted members on 17 November.
- Be chartered on air
The first chapters are chartered at the Founding Convocation on 21 December.

- 03An open event for people who are not yet members.
- 04A social. A society is also the people in it.
Why lead one
The lead pays nothing
For as long as you hold the post. You are doing the work, so the Society does not charge you for it.

Contribution records are published every December, and the top chapters earn a visit from Dr Ben Miles, filmed for the channel.
The founding cohort
150 places. Applications open on 28 October and close at midnight on 7 November, and the close will be honoured. The founding cohort keeps its entry rate for life, charters the first chapters, and builds the Society's first course alongside Dr Ben Miles.
